I am a qualified Integrative Psychotherapist and a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). I work with adults and young people using humanistic practices of a person-centred, gestalt and existential approach incorporating elements from therapies such as CBT and Mindfulness. Working with you to build a relationship I provide an environment in which you can explore, learn and understand yourself in greater depth to enhance and enrich your life and relationships. I believe you are your own expert.
"The most creative act you will ever undertake is the act of creating yourself" Deepak Chopra
Person-Centred Counselling
Counsellors who practice a person-centred approach believe in an equal relationship where you, the client, know yourself best and the counsellor facilitates and aids your personal growth and self-awareness enabling you to make the right changes for you. Person-centred therapists believe the relationship that is built between client and therapist is the underlying key to assisting personal growth.
Gestalt Counselling
Gestalt counsellors believe in working holistically with both the verbal language and body language of a client. Counsellors of this field often work creatively using arts, play and sand therapy to help clients find new ways of expressing their personal conflicts, encouraging self-awareness and acceptance to enhance personal growth and development.
Existential Counselling
From an existential perspective the basis of therapy is to enable the client to realise the choices and responsibilities present in their life. Existentialists believe in living an authentic life by taking responsibility for the choices you make on life's journey. We make sense of our world, and our place within it, through the relationships we have and how we relate to others; understanding this helps shape the beliefs we hold about ourselves. Awareness of how we relate to others can help us to live a more real and authentic life.
CBT
CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) focuses on how our thoughts, beliefs and attitudes shape the way we approach the world and how these influence our feelings and behaviours in a given situation. By understanding and at times challenging our thoughts and beliefs we are able to change the expressed behaviour.
Mindfulness
Mindfulness is about noticing what we are experiencing both mentally and physically and how this affects the way we deal with situations. By noticing and accepting both mental and physical elements that we are experiencing in a non-judgemental way we are able to gain greater clarity about the situation we are facing.
