I have worked with many children aged 8+ through to teens and young adults. Supporting children in their transition from childhood through to adulthood is critical. Young adults today face many challenges from the world around them, from feeling lost and lonely, facing peer pressure to finding their own identity and feeling comfortable being the person they want to be.
Offering a young person a safe and secure place to explore their concerns and worries without fear of judgement and with total acceptance, can help them grow to be strong, confident and happy adults. Life is confusing and it can be difficult to step back from what is going on around you. Counselling can help a young person to see more clearly, helping them to make decisions and choices that make sense of the confusion they are experiencing.

FAQ's relevant to young adults:
Is it confidential? Confidentiality is of the utmost importance in establishing trust and counselling provides a space to explore concerns without fear of them being discussed outside of the counselling environment. Concerns will only be discussed with others with permission from the young person or if the young person is at significant risk of harm, whereby their safety needs to be upheld.
How long does counselling last? This depends on the child concerned - it may be a few sessions or it may be longer. Sessions are reviewed regularly and as a parent you will be kept informed about the decisions your child makes regarding the length of time they are seen for.
How does it work? The counselling contract is signed and approved by you as the parent and payment is made on a weekly basis; the length of the session may vary depending on your child's individual needs. As a parent you will be kept informed about details such as the time and length of session but all other materials and work conducted within the counselling session is confidential to your child alone unless they give me permission to share with you, your child is at significant risk of harm or I am required to do so by a court of law.
